Jails in Amritsar
In Amritsar there are two prisons which are part of the same complex, often referred to as the Amritsar Prison Complex. The two jails, Central Jail 1 and Central Jail II have been in existence since 1957. This very complex in totality has more than 2,000 prisoners, which is for a fact more than the number that is sanctioned. In these jails, apart from keeping the prisoners, many activities take place that lead to the well-being of these prisoners. This has further helped in changing the outlook of the jail which is seen not as a punishment area, but a correction home. There are many ways which are ensured to make these prisoners into better human beings and come out as an integral part of the society.
