Public Transport in Amritsar

There have been many attempts to better the public transportation system in Amritsar, but all in vain. In a city which remains very crowded, there are services to choose from, but not the best that the city has to offer. 

However, the charm of the city overpowers it all and in the lack of few top class services, one finds solace. Amritsar is primarily a city with a high standard of living so people living here have the best of cars and prefer their personal vehicles.

With the religious aspect intact, people enjoy walking to their sacred destinations and don't make use of transport services at all. The distance too is not that much and the religious sentiments too take charge. 

Many students and women are seen riding scooters, something that is common to many regions of Punjab. People seem to enjoy regular commuting ways which take them to the destinations of their choice. Tourists too merge in this atmosphere and enjoy whatever comes their way. Nevertheless, the services may not be the best there is, but it still makes your ride a memorable on. Order in advance the comfortable mediums as you must remember that the city witnesses a rush of tourists.

Both cycle and auto-rickshaws remain the public transport highlight in the Amritsar. Traditional and convenient, people prefer to commute through it. The rickshaw pullers are often seen dressed in the typical Sikh attire, keeping intact the religious sentiments and devotion. 

They are polite in conversation and guide you in case of anything. The service, unlike any other city is highly preferred as it gives you the feel of being in a pious land. The rates of these rides are minimal and don’t leave a hole in your pocket, at all. Also, rickshaws are preferred over any other medium because they slide you past the busy and narrow streets of the city, very conveniently.

For those who like to commute comfortably, booking a cab is the most suitable way. Until very recent, the taxi/cab service in Amritsar rose to popularity ensuring timely service to the customers. Unlike the Autos, these cannot be hopped on to in the street. Prior booking is important, based on which your charges will be listed. 

The service remains active all the time, but there needs to be a buffer period given after booking. The cab will take you to your desired location, and can also be hired on a day basis.  Such pick and drop facilities are a relief to the people visiting and living in the Amritsar for its comfortable, reliable and quick.

The bus service in Amritsar goes is not largely preferred because of the crowd. There are buses that run within the city, but people prefer the above two services over this. But, it is one bus service that is a hit and serves many a happy faces. This bus is the one which picks you from the railway station and takes you directly to the Golden Temple. This service is free of cost and this being the reason, it remains very crowded. There have been several initiatives that have been taken to enhance bus services within the city, but strong implementation is still awaited.

On the contrary, if you want to travel to Amritsar or from Amritsar to another city, it is all the easier as there is great connectivity. Thus, the service of bus as a transport medium may be a hassle in a crowded city, but outside, it’s very travel friendly. There are buses, Volvos, special coaches that take you to your preferred destination.
